Romania September 2020: Dacia Logan starts 17th year of reign, Ford Puma up to record #7 in market swinging back up 79.9%

The Ford Puma breaks its ranking record in Romania to #7.

After imploding -51.9% in August, the Romanian new car market swings back up 79.9% in September to 10.878 units as the market reacts to wild WLTP-related year-ago changes , leading to a year-to-date tally off -31.8% to 84.599. Local hero Dacia (+154.2%) almost doubles its home market growth rate to hit 31.6% share vs. 30.9% so far this year, with Renault (+241.8%), Volkswagen (+164.8%) and Skoda (+96.2%) completing a very dynamic Top 4. Suzuki (+241.7%) also impresses in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Opel (-39.8%) and Hyundai (-3.4%) buck the negative trend with disappointing losses. Model-wise, the Dacia Logan (+167.5%) starts a 17th year of reign by a 193rd consecutive month at #1, followed by the Sandero (+547.5%) which cements its newfound #2 spot YTD just as new generations of the two nameplates are revealed. The Dacia Duster (+56.9%) and Renault Clio (+4125%) ensure the September Top 4 matches the YTD order. The Renault Captur (+744.4%), Skoda Scala (+384.1%) and VW Golf (+85.4%) also shine in the Top 10 while the Ford Puma is up 4 spots in August to score a second Top 10 finish in the past 3 months, breaking its ranking record “at home” where it is produced to #7.
