Pakistan September 2020: Suzuki Alto now #1 YTD in market up 18.3%

The Suzuki Alto is now #1 year-to-date in Pakistan.

Thanks to PAMA we can share with you September sales of locally-produced light vehicles in Pakistan, a fair representation of what the local new car landscape given high taxes make new car imports negligible. Pakistani sales register a second consecutive year-on-year gain in September at +18.3% to 13.982 units, however the year-ago comparison set was particularly weak and down -38.9% on the year prior. Year-to-date volumes are down -47.1% to 81.858 units. Suzuki (-20.4%) is definitely not taking advantage of the (artificial) market surge yet sees its share close in on its YTD level at 46.4% vs. 47.2%. On the other hand, Toyota (+105.8%) and Honda (+87.4%) both post spectacular lifts. Hyundai is up to 2.3% share vs. just 1% so far this year. Model-wise, the Suzuki Alto (-37%) reaches its second highest share of the year at 22.2%, resisting the Toyota Yaris up to a record 17.3% share and claiming the YTD top spot for the first time. The Honda Civic and City (+67.6%) and Suzuki Wagon R (+70.7%) also impress.

Previous month: Pakistan August 2020: Honda (+71.8%), Toyota (+52.2%) tilt market to first gain in 17 months (+14.9%)

One year ago: Pakistan September 2019: Suzuki Alto hits highest share of any nameplate in over 10 years at 41.7%
