Austria September 2020: Audi (+86.2%), Seat (+43.5%), VW (+33.3%) help trigger first market gain this year (+5.9%), VW ID.3 at #16

Audi sales surge 86.2% year-on-year in Austria in September.

12/10 update: Now with Top 20 models and final brands data.

In September, new car sales in Austria snap a dreadful streak of seven consecutive months of double-digit declines and manage their first year-on-year gain since last December at +5.3% to 22.162, leading to a year-to-date tally down -30.1% to 180.639. Volkswagen (+33.1%) vastly outpaces the market but its share remains below its YTD level at 14.5% vs. 15.5%. In fact and quite strikingly, the entire Top 6 improves faster than the market, with Seat (+43.4%), Hyundai (+36.7%) and Skoda (+15.2%) posting the most spectacular gains while Ford (+8.2%) and Mercedes (+6.5%) are also solid but more muted. Audi (+85.9%) and Mazda (+15.6%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10, while further down Ssangyong (+650%), Mitsubishi (+138%), Suzuki (+84.8%), Lamborghini (+50%), Land Rover (+36.8%), Subaru (+34.7%), Tesla (+30.6%) and Kia (+16.7%) also stand out. In the naughty corner: DS (-54.5%), Lexus (-53.1%), Jaguar (-42.6%), Opel (-40.4%), Porsche (-38.8%), Renault (-34.6%), Peugeot (-28.7%), Mini (-28.57%), Honda (-28%) and BMW (-24.6%).

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+55.4%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD while the Seat Alhambra (+271.6%) is up 4-fold on year-ago volumes and 10 spots on last month to #2 overall, scoring a spit in the YTD Top 20 as a result (#13). The VW Golf (+27.5%) remains at #3 and seems unaffected by the arrival of the VW ID.3 directly at #16, meaning it now appears within the September Top 20 of 9 European markets so far: Norway (#1), Ireland (#1), Iceland (#3), Denmark (#5), Finland (#6), Switzerland (#9), the Netherlands (#11), Sweden (#15) and Austria (#16). The Tesla Model 3 (+41.1%) lurches up to #4, with the VW Sharan (+269.2%), Bus (+114.3%), Ford Galaxy (+87.3%), Hyundai i30 (+86.5%), Mazda CX-30 (+69.2%), Fiat 500 family (+63%), Seat Ateca (+58.5%), Hyundai Kona (+56.5%), VW Tiguan (+54.8%) and Hyundai Tucson (+38.1%) all posting surreal gains in the remainder of the Top 20.
