Indonesia June 2020: Suzuki Carry signs first win, wholesales tumble -85.9%, retail down -65.9%
The Suzuki Carry is the best-selling vehicle in Indonesia in June.
The coronavirus pandemic has continued to worsen in Indonesia, going from 26.473 total cases as of May 31 to 56.385 as of June 30 and 88.214 at the time of writing. As a result, sales figures only improve marginally over May and remain hit extremely hard. Wholesales for June are down -85.9% year-on-year to 12.623 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -54.3% to 260.833 while retail sales are off -65.9% in July to 29.862 and -50.6% over H1 to 290.597. In the wholesales brands ranking, Toyota (-80%) reclaims the top spot at 29.4% share vs. 31.4% so far in 2020, distancing Suzuki (-61.9%), Mitsubishi (-80.7%), Honda (-83.2%) and Isuzu (-62%). Retail-wise, Toyota (-60.3%) achieves a stunning 37.5% share vs. 32% YTD above Daihatsu (-56.6%), Suzuki (-54.8%), Honda (-80.4%) and Mitsubishi (-84.1%). Mercedes (-14.6%), Lexus (-22.3%), Hyundai (-33.8%) and Isuzu (-48.8%) resist best in the Top 20 while Audi (+600%) and Peugeot (+142.9%) impress below.
In the models ranking, extraordinary times continue to lead to extraordinary results: after the Daihatsu Sigra in April and the Mitsubishi Triton in May we have a third consecutive first-timer in pole position in June: the Suzuki Carry Pikap (-52.3%) carves itself a crazy 13.5% share thanks to over 1.700 wholesales as small businesses try their hardest to limit the disruption due to the pandemic. The Honda Brio (-75%) rallies back up 13 spots to return to the #2 position it holds YTD while the Toyota Kijang Innova (-85.8%) leaps back onto the podium at #3. The Toyota Alphard (+49.1%) scores the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10 and surges 9 ranks on May to break into the Indonesian Top 10 for the first time, landing directly at #4. Leader last month, the Mitsubishi Triton (-16.5%) contains its loss again but drops to #8 just as the new Suzuki XL7 is down to #10. Still #1 YTD, the Toyota Avanza (-88.7%) is stuck in hell and outside the Top 10 at #11 while the Isuzu Panther Pickup (+400%), Toyota Corolla (+287.5%), Vios (+250%), Nissan Terra (+215.4%) and Toyota Fortuner (+26.8%) sign the only additional gains in the Top 50. The Lexus LM makes its first appearance in Indonesia at #42.
