New car sales in Greece are down -67.5% year-on-year in May to 4.497 units, that’s a slightly better hold than in April (-80.2%) but still a pretty poor performance given how relatively unscathed the country has been in the COVID-19 crisis (3.283 cases and 187 deaths). The year-to-date tally now stands at 28.321 units, down -46% over the same period in 2019. Toyota (-49.8%) continues to perform markedly better than the market at 16.2% share vs. 15.3% so far this year, distancing Peugeot (-59.8%) and Opel (-60.6%) like last month while Volkswagen (-64.4%) and Mercedes (-46.5%) round out the Top 5. BMW (-50%) and Audi (-52.5%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 but Hyundai (-81.8%), Nissan (-71.7%) and Citroen (-70.1%) all crash. Further down, Porsche (+100%) posts the only year-on-year gain in market, Jeep (#21) returns to the ranking and Abarth is stable.

Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (-59.9%) is unstoppable in pole position at 8.1% share, lightyears above a very dynamic Peugeot 208 (-35.4%) at 4.9% and the Opel Corsa (-60.7%) at 4.5%. The Toyota C-HR (-14.2%) continues to over-perform at #4 while the Peugeot 3008 (-25.3%) is up 6 spots on April to #5. The Toyota Corolla (+28%) is the only gainer in the Top 10 thanks to the new generation but the Opel Crossland X (+80%), Audi Q2 (+42.2%) are lurking just outside at #12 and #11 respectively. The Skoda Kamiq (#18) tops recent launches above the Mercedes GLB (#33) surprisingly high in Greece, the Ford Puma (#49) and Skoda Scala (#64).
