Croatia May 2020: Kia Stonic, VW Touran defy market crushed down -76.2%

The Kia Stonic is the 2nd best-selling vehicle in Croatia in May.

The Croatian new car market remains very affected by the coronavirus crisis with sales down another -76.2% year-on-year in May to 2.173 units, pulling the year-to-date volume down -55.6% to 13.286. Market leaders Volkswagen (-64.1%) and Skoda (-46.8%) gain share year-on-year thanks to contained losses, but Renault (-85.4%) freefalls even though it remains at #3. Kia (-26%) leaps up 4 spots on April to #4 and scores the best hold among the Top 22 brands, with Suzuki (-61%), Toyota (-63.7%) and Hyundai (-66.8%) also faring relatively well in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Jaguar (+25%), Porsche (-16.7%) and Volvo (-37.7%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-55.5%) easily remains the best-seller albeit with a weak 5.6% share vs. 7% YTD, while the Kia Stonic (+185.3%) breaks its Croatian ranking record for the second month running at a splendid 2nd place with 4.5% of the market. The VW Touran (+146.7%) also defies the surrounding gloom and steps onto the podium at #3 which is also a new ranking record. The Renault Clio (-86.4%) implodes but rallies back 12 spots on last month to #4 with the Dacia Sandero (-42.6%) and Duster (-78.3%) in tow. The Toyota Yaris (-27.1%) and Hyundai i20 (-35.7%) also resist in the Top 10, while further down the Hyundai Kona (#13), Peugeot 208 (#17) and Seat Ateca (#19) reappear inside the Top 20.
