Turkey January 2020: Toyota Corolla ends 13 months of Fiat Egea domination in market bouncing back up 89.7%

The Toyota Corolla is the best-selling vehicle in Turkey in January.

After impressive rebounds last September (+82.3%), October (+127.5%) and to December (+16.5%), the Turkish new light vehicle market confirms it is on the mend with January registrations up 89.7% year-on-year to 27.273 units. Given January 2019 was down 59%, a more telling comparison base could be January 2018 (35.076) and this month is down a somewhat palatable -22.2% on 2018. Volkswagen (+145.5%) spectacularly reclaims the brands pole position for the third time in the past 6 months at 13.5% share, toppling traditional leader Fiat (+61.2%) at 11.9% while Renault (+42.5%) is also knocked down one spot on last month to #3 and 10.7% share. Toyota (+664%), Dacia (+425.3%), Skoda (+257.9%) and Peugeot (+143.6%) all enjoy stratospheric gains in the remainder of the Top 10, while further down, Ssangyong (+320%), Seat (+315.8%), Citroen (+304.9%), DS (+233.3%), Isuzu (+143.8%), Smart (+140%) and Kia (+101.2%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla (+1750.4%) is boosted by the new generation to its first Turkish pole position since November 2018, ending 13 consecutive months of reign by the Fiat Egea (+50.2%). The VW Passat (+203.7%) soars 5 spots on December to climb back onto the Turkish podium for the first time since last October, distancing the Renault Megane (+158.4%) and Honda Civic (+44.2%). The Dacia Sandero (+765.6%) and Duster (+270.6%) also easily outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, three recent launches (<12 months) manage to slip into the January Top 25: the VW T-Roc (#13), Peugeot Rifter (#22) and Citroen C5 Aircross (#23), with the Skoda Karoq (+2846.2%), Peugeot 2008 (+1504.2%), Dacia Lodgy (+1142.5%) and Peugeot 3008 (+254.7%) all scoring spectacular gains.
