South Africa February 2020: Renault (+12.3%), Suzuki (+63.2%), Kia (+27.1%) shine in market down -0.8%

The Renault Triber breaks into the South African Top 25.

New vehicle sales in South Africa edge down -0.8% on a revised February 2019 figure to 43.485 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -3.5% to 83.719. Brand leader Toyota (-10%) falls heavily but easily remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 21.6% share just as the Volkswagen Group (+1.9%) defies the market to 17.6% share. Ford (-2.5%) contains its loss in third place but Nissan (-25.9%) freefalls. Suzuki (+63.2%), Kia (+27.1%) and Renault (+12.3%) all post fantastic gains in the remainder of the Top 10 with Mercedes (+5.5%), Hyundai (+4.2%) and Isuzu (+3.8%).

Model-wise, the Toyota HIlux (-17.4%) resumes its domination depite a steep fall, distancing the VW Polo Vivo (-10.2%) and Polo (+32.1%) with the Ford Ranger (-27.2%) and Isuzu D-Max (+34.5%) rounding out the Top 5. The Toyota Hiace (#6) tops recent launches above the Haval H2 (#19) repeating in the Top 20, the VW T-Cross (#23), the Renault Triber (#24) up 134 spots on its inaugural month, the Hyundai Venue (#26), Kia Seltos (#28) and Haval H1 (#35).
