After three straight years of double-digit falls, the United Arab Emirates new light vehicle market stabilises in 2019 with a much more palatable -1.5% decline to 215.977 registrations. Brand leader Toyota (+1.8%) swims upstream to cross the 30% market share milestone at 30.9%, whereas #2 Nissan (-14.4%) is in difficulty this year at 20.6% share vs. 23.7% in 2018. Mitsubishi (+0.1%) is almost immobile and holds onto the third spot on the podium at 13.2% share. That’s right, the three aforementioned marques account for a whopping 64.7% of the UAE market in 2019 (vs. 66.6% in 2018), that’s almost 2 in every 3 cars sold in the country over the past year. No other brand manages to sport a market share higher than 3.5%, with Lexus (+13.2%), Ford (-8.7%) and Kia (-8.1%) the next best things. Hyundai (+29.6%) scores the largest gain in the Top 15 while Mazda (+7.1%), Chevrolet (+3.5%) and Honda (+1.6%) also secure positive results in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, MG (+185.9%), Ram (+157.3%), Peugeot (+66.7%), Dodge (+30.4%), Volvo (+21.8%), Genesis (+19%), Hino (+17.1%), Geely (+16%), Jeep (+12.9%) and GMC (+10.5%) are among the best performers.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+7.1%) is the most popular vehicle in the country for only the second time in the past decade alongside 2016, ending two consecutive years of domination by the Nissan Patrol (-28.7%) down to #3 this year. The Mitsubishi Pajero (-3.2%) holds onto the #2 rank, ensuring the podium is 100% large SUV for the second year running. At #4 overall, the Nissan Sunny (-0.4%) remains the best-selling passenger car in the UAE, distancing the Toyota Camry (+3.2%) at #7 but these are the only cars in a Top 12 dominated by SUVs and pickups. The Toyota Hilux (+15%) and Prado (-15.4%) remain at #5 and #6 respectively, the Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup (+7.5%) is up two spots to #8 and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport (+149.3%) up 16 to #9. The Honda HR-V (#60) is the only 2019 launch making it into the UAE Top 100, with the Lexus UX (#108), Kia Telluride (#112), MG5 (#114) and Kia Pegas (#128) in tow.
