Vietnam Full Year 2019: Toyota Vios and Mitsubishi Xpander top record market (+12.4%)

Outstanding year for Vietnamese new vehicle sales up 12.4% to 322.287 units, a new all-time record smashing the previous best of 304.427 established in 2016. Toyota (+20.5%) enjoys a second consecutive year atop the manufacturers ranking, drastically widening the gap with #2 Thaco-Kia (-6.1%) from just under 7.000 units in 2018 to 24.000 this year. Honda (+22.2%) overtakes Mazda (stable) to step onto the podium ahead of Ford (+30.6%) while Mitsubishi (+198.3%) triples its sales year-on-year to edge up to #6 overall. Lexus (+157%), Suzuki (+70.9%) and Isuzu (+13%)also outpace the market this year but Chevrolet (-78.5%), Hyundai (-36.8%) and Peugeot (-18.5%) struggle mightily. Model-wise, the Toyota Vios (-0.1%) manages a 6th straight win but loses over one percentage point of market share to 8.4%. Most importantly, it is under threat by the Mitsubishi Xpander (+1930.1%) which pipped it for #1 in October and November after ranking #2 no less than 5 times this year. The Mazda3 (+2.3%) remains at #3 ahead of the Honda CR-V (+51.2%), Ford Ranger (+53.5%) and Toyota Fortuner (+109.8%).
