Denmark Full Year 2019: Nissan Qashqai signs first ever win in record market (+3.2%)

In 2019 the Danish new car market ends two consecutive years of decline and steps up 3.2% year-on-year to 225.593 which is a new all-time annual volume record, beating the 223.168 units of 2016. Neither Volkswagen (-2.8%) or Peugeot (-7.2%) take advantage of this uptick but both remain the most popular brands in the country, followed like in 2018 by Toyota (+7.3%) and Citroen (+12.1%) in much better shape. But it’s Audi (+30.5%), Hyundai (+12.3%) and Skoda (+16.5%) that master the largest gain in the Top 10, while further down Land Rover (+159.1%), DS (+52.5%), Jeep (+52.4%), Seat (+36.2%), Mazda (+33%), Volvo (+19.1%), Porsche (+13.9%), BMW (+16.9%) and Mitsubishi (+10.3%) shine. Tesla is up 28-fold from #31 to #19.
We have a surprise in the Danish models ranking for 2019, with the Nissan Qashqai (-5.4%), not in particularly great shape elsewhere in Europe and towards the end of its model cycle, signing its first ever annual win despite a drop and becoming the first SUV to top the annual Danish charts. The Qashqai takes advantage of the generation changeover and consequent freefall of the Peugeot 208 (-22.1%) which led for the past 3 years. The Citroen C3 (+33.9%) leaps up 3 spots on 2018 to land in 2nd place, with the VW Polo (+10.4%) and Toyota Yaris (+3.6%) rounding out the Top 5. The Citroen C1 (+42.1%), Renault Clio (+7%) and Skoda Octavia (+7%) also shine in the Top 10 while the BMW 3 Series (+59.6%), Ford Focus (+49.9%), Audi A3 (+32.4%) and VW T-Roc (20.5%) stand out further down. The Toyota Corolla (#23) is the best-selling 2019 launch ahead of the VW T-Cross (#28) and Tesla Model 3 (#29), the latter strikingly topping the overall December charts after ranking #6 in June and #4 in September.
