Thanks to our partnership with SEMO Cyprus and INNOSOFT, we can share with you today annual sales data for Cyprus, a market down for the second year running at -5.3% to 12.813 registrations. This year Kia (+11.7%) overtakes Toyota (-7.8%) to #1 brand with 13.7% of the market while Volkswagen (+15.6%) steps onto the podium, toppling Nissan (-22.2%). Hyundai (+68.9%) surges 3 spots to #5 and Renault (+340%) is the best performer of all, breaking into the Top 10 at #10. Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (-12.1%) secures a second consecutive annual win despite a tough fall and is followed like in 2018 by the Nissan Qashqai (-10.3%) also in difficulty. The two heroes of the year are the Kia Stonic (+95.3%) up 12 spots to land on the third step of the podium and the VW T-Roc (+75.4%) up 13 ranks to #4, higher than at home in Germany where it ranks #6.

The Toyota C-HR (-26%) drops two spots to #5 which is still its world-best ranking, occurring in Cyprus for the 2nd year in a row. The Kia Sportage (+12%) and Hyundai Tucson (-17.3%) make it an incredible 6 crossovers in the Cyprus Top 7 for 2019 vs. 5 in 2018. Other great performers in this market heavily skewed towards rental cars include the Hyundai Kona (+1310.5%), i20 (+633.3%), Renault Captur (+402.2%), Kia Cee’d (+186.7%), Ford Ecosport (+126.3%), Fiesta (+124.6%), Toyota Corolla (+50.5%) and Volvo XC40 (+39.8%). The VW T-Cross is the best-selling 2019 launch and the only one cracking the annual Top 30 at #18, peaking at #2 in December. Small markets mean volatile monthly rankings and the top spot indeed changed hands almost every month and equal #1s in August and November. By year-end, the Kia Sportage had racked up 3 wins (July, October and November), the VW T-Roc 2 (May and December), Kia Stonic 2 (March and September), Kia Cee’d 2 (April and June), Toyota Yaris 2 (August and October), Nissan Qashqai 2 (August and October) and Toyota C-HR (January) and Hyundai Kona (February) one each.
