The Belgian new car market edges up just 0.07% or 377 sales in 2019 to 550.009 units, its highest annual volume since 2011. Volkswagen (+0.7%) roughly follows the market to lodge a second consecutive year as the #1 brand in the country, followed like in 2018 by Renault (-3.6%) and Peugeot (+0.5%). Mercedes (+6.8%) overtakes BMW (-8.6%) to take control of the premium segment while Audi (+8.6%) remains at #7 overall. Citroen (+16.6%) and Dacia (+10.9%) post the only two double-digit gains in the Top 15, advancing to #8 and #10 respectively. Further down, Tesla (+320.3%) lurches 9 spots to #24, peaking at #19 and 1.9% share in December, with Alpine (+217.8%), Rolls Royce (+100%), Lamborghini (+50%), Bentley (+37.1%), Lotus (+32.4%), DS (+27.4%), Ferrari (+27%) and Seat (+12.3%) among the most dynamic further down.

Model-wise, the VW Golf (-8.7%) secures a 9th win in the past 10 years despite a steep fall, distancing the Renault Clio (-3.7%) and Hyundai Tucson (+4.5%). But the hero of the year is the Mercedes A-Class (+53.1%) making a spectacular push from #18 in 2018 to #4 in 2019, even ranking #1 overall in August, September and November. The Renault Captur (+20.5%) rounds out the Top 5 like last year, with the Mercedes C-Class (+39.5%) the other great Top 10 performer, up 18 ranks to #9. The Renault Scenic (+1.4%) and Skoda Octavia (+1.3%) edge up and the Dacia Sandero (-2.1%) enters the Top 10 despite losing ground.
