Romania November 2019: Dacia Sandero breaks record again, Opel Crossland X in Top 10 in market up +57.7%

The Dacia Sandero soars to 8.5% share at home in November.

New car sales in Romania continue to gallop ahead in November at +57.7% year-on-year to 13.091 units, marking an 11th double-digit gain in the past 12 months and lifting the year-to-date volume up 21.5% to 147.789. Homegrown market leader Dacia (+92.4%) almost doubles the market growth rate to hit 34.3% share, a second consecutive month and third time this year above 34%. Ford (+54%) is up one spot on October to #2 vs. #4 YTD, Renault (+161%) is up 3 to #3 and scores the largest gain in the Top 8 but there are only 3 additional Top 10 brands outpacing the market: Nissan (+232%), Mazda (+112.5%) and Volkswagen (+58.5%). This Mazda’s first incursion into the Romanian Top 10 in over a year: since October 2018. Further down, Porsche (+250%), Citroen (+235.3%), Smart (+208.3%), Fiat (+156.4%), Honda (+106.7%) and Jeep (+100%) also manage to at least double their sales year-on-year.

The Dacia Logan (+48.5%) once again just trails the market but manages an incredible 183rd consecutive monthly win – no interruption in over 15 years since its September 2004 launch. The Dacia Sandero (+186.5%) almost triples its sales year-on-year to advance to #2 overall with 8.9% share, which is potentially its 2nd all-time record in a row but the nameplate may have done better in 2008-2009 when the first generation launched. The Dacia Duster (+107.7%) drops to #3, with the Ford Focus (+55.6%), Nissan Qashqai (+459%) and Renault Clio (+85.5%) also impressive below. The Opel Crossland X (+465.3%) breaks into the Romanian Top 10 for the first time while the Renault Megane (+357.6%) also posts a spectacular gain in the remainder of the Top 10. Among recent launches, the VW T-Cross surges 29 spots on October to a record #15 ahead of the Skoda Scala (#25), Citroen C5 Aircross (#44) and Mazda CX-30 (#45).
