Denmark November 2019: Peugeot 208 back in charge in record market

The Peugeot 208 is the best-selling vehicle in Denmark in November.

New car sales in Denmark continue to evolve at record levels with both the November volume up 1% to 18.114 and the year-to-date tally up 2.7% to 210.100 new all-time high marks eclipsing the previous bests of 2017. Volkswagen (-14%) didn’t get the memo and dives down but easily remains #1 with 13.8% share, higher than the 13.6% it commands YTD. In contrast, Toyota (+32.2%) manages the largest gain in the Top 10 with Citroen (+12.8%) the only other double-digit gainer and BMW (+4.8%) the only additional Top 10 gainer. Strikingly, all remaining 6 brands all drop, with Opel (-16.5%), Ford (-15.1%) and Peugeot (-10.6%) hit the hardest. Further down, Tesla (+955.6%), Porsche (+650%), Mitsubishi (+400%), Land Rover (+300%), Mini (+166.7%), DS (+81.7%), Nissan (+37%), Audi (+36%), Mazda (+35.1%) and Kia (+34.4%) stand out with extravagant gains.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 208 (-6.4%) is starting to feel the effects of the launch of the new generation, reclaiming the overall top spot for the third time this year after January and August. The 208 is no stranger to Danish domination, having topped the annual charts from 2016 to 2018. Only two units below for the month, the Citroen C3 (+42.7%) has just set up a very tight final fight for the 2019 annual pole position with the Nissan Qashqai (+46.8%) now with a tiny 21-unit advantage after 11 months. The Toyota Yaris (+38.7%) is also very strong in November at #3, with the BMW 3 Series (+118.8%), Skoda Fabia (+66.4%), VW Passat (+9.5%) and Toyota Aygo (+8%) all outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
