Austria November 2019: Skoda Octavia on the cusp of historical win, Mazda CX-30 up to world-best #13

The Skoda Octavia is about to end 42 years of VW Golf reign…

The Austrian new car market drops -1.4% year-on-year in November on an already very weak score a year ago to just 23.271 units, dragging the year-to-date tally down -4.8% to 306.707. Volkswagen (-17.2%) is largely responsible for this downturn, enduring the largest fall in the Top 9 and falling to 15.2% share vs. 16.1% YTD. This is however almost double the score of the #2 Skoda (-1.7%) matching the market evolution, while BMW (+13.2%) stands out with the only double-digit gain in the Top 5 at #3. Hyundai (+4.9%) is also strong at #4, with Mazda (+51.7%), Fiat (+40.3%) and Renault (+29.7) scoring the largest improvements in the Top 10. Below, notice Porsche (+1670%), Tesla (+205.1%), Toyota (+66.9%), Kia (+26.3%) and Mitsubishi (+15.5%).

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+0.6%) is on the cusp of a historical annual win that will end 42 years of domination by the VW Golf (-53.3%). The VW Polo (-27.4%) is knocked down to #2 but remains #3 YTD, while the Renault Megane (+174%) shoots up 9 spots on October to #4, the Hyundai i10 (+239.8%) and Ford Ecosport (+65.2%) are both up 21 ranks to #9 and #8 respectively, the Fiat Panda (+24.3%) is up 12 to #10 and the VW Tiguan (+19.7%) down one to #5. The Hyundai Kona (+205%) and BMW 3 Series (+152.9%) also shine just outside the Top 10, while the Mazda CX-30 tops recent launches, up 28 spots on last month to a world-best #13.
