Thailand September 2019: Mitsubishi (+6.4%), MG (+7.2%), Mercedes (+22.3%) survive in first double-digit market drop in 3 years (-14.1%)

Mitsubishi is the only Top 7 carmaker in positive this month.

It’s getting a lot worse for new vehicle sales in Thailand: after 29 consecutive months of growth between January 2017 and May 2019, and 3 single-digit declines from June to August, September deliveries freefall -14.1% to 76.195 units, the first Thai double-digit gain and worst result since November 2016. However thanks to a very strong start of the year, the YTD tally remains in positive for now at +2% and 761.847 sales. Brand leader Toyota (-14.5%) almost matches the market and holds just under one-third of all sales at 32.6% share, followed at a distance by Isuzu (-18.2%) and Honda (-8.1%). Mitsubishi (+6.4%) is the only gainer in the Top 7 just as Ford (-42.3%), Mazda (-22.4%) and Nissan (-18.5%) implode. Chinese carmaker MG (+7.2%) is also very solid at #8 but it’s Mercedes (+22.3%) that takes the title of biggest gainer in the Top 10. Further down, Subaru (+216.4%) and Porsche (+173.3%) also make themselves noticed.
