Argentina October 2019: VW Amarok up to #4, market down -32.9%

The VW Amarok hits its highest ranking in Argentina in 3.5 years.

Argentinean new vehicle sales endure a 17th consecutive double-digit fall in October at -32.9% to 32.432 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -43.7% to just 410.051. Volkswagen (-32.5%) and Toyota (-44.2%) remain the best-selling brands in the country, and in fact this month the entire Top 10 is identical to the YTD order, with Jeep (-14.6%), Nissan (-29.7%) and Fiat (-31.3%) resisting best and Citroen (-47.5%), Peugeot (-47.2%), Renault (-47.2%) and Ford (-39.9%) faring the worst. Further down, only Foton (+183.3%), Ram (+20.4%), Mini (+17.4%), Suzuki (+10.5%), Shineray (+7.7%) and Hyundai (+6.3%) manage a year-on-year gain in the October Top 30.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-30.5%) snaps a 14th consecutive monthly win, distancing the Ford Ka (-26.2%) and VW Gol (-29%) while the VW Amarok (-9.7%) steps up two spots on September to #4 thanks to the arrival of a new V6 variant, its highest ranking in Argentina – where it is produced – since May 2016 (#4) and second-highest ranking ever below the  3rd spot overall it reached in November 2015. Only the Ford Ranger (-16.8%) manages to contain its fall to below the market rate in the remainder of the Top 10, with the Fiat Cronos (-58.3%), Toyota Etios (-57%), Renault Kwid (-55%) and Chevrolet Onix (-53.1%) all imploding.
