Uruguay September 2019: Volkswagen (+35%) snaps YTD top spot off Renault

Volkswagen is now the #1 brand in Uruguay YTD.

New car sales in Uruguay skid down -2.5% year-on-year in September to 3.355 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -9.9% to 29.179. Volkswagen (+35%) holds onto the monthly top spot for the 5th time in the past 6 months, snatching the YTD pole position off Renault (-20.4%) stuck at #3 for the month. Like in August, Suzuki (-25.8%) is the #2 brand in the country, just as Hyundai (+31.3%), Citroen (+30.6%), Peugeot (+6.2%) and Fiat (+2.8%) also shine in the Top 10 but Toyota (-26.3%) and Chevrolet (-23.9%) freefall. Chery leads the Chinese assault at #11 ahead of Dongfeng (+185.7%) at #14, Great Wall (+46.2%) at #15, BYD (stable) at #18, Geely (+266.7%) at #19 and FAW (-23.1%) at #20. All-in-all, Chinese carmakers surge 52.9% year-on-year in September to 7.7% share vs. 7.9% YTD.
