Vietnam August 2019: Mitsubishi Xpander back up to #2 in market up 4.8%

The Mitsubishi Xpander confirms it is an instant blockbuster in Vietnam.

New vehicle sales in Vietnam edge up 4.8% year-on-year in August to 21.483 units, a much lower rate than earlier in the year that leads to a year-to-date volume up 20.8% to 202.567. Toyota (+7.1%) outpaces the market to remain the most popular manufacturer in Vietnam ahead of Thaco-Kia (-1.6%) while Ford (+94.5%) and Mitsubishi (+169.7%) both post spectacular gains to  bypass Mazda (-0.8%) and Honda (-12.1%) and land in third and fourth place respectively. Suzuki (+55.7%), Hino (+29.2%) and Isuzu (+22.7%) are also in excellent shape in the Top 12.

In the models ranking, the Toyota Vios (+13.1%) comfortably holds onto the top spot with 9% share vs. 8.3% YTD, while the Mitsubishi Xpander, launched a year ago, is back up to #2 overall for the 4th time in the past 8 months at 6.2% share vs. 4.9% so far in 2019. The Ford Ranger (+669.3%) rounds up the podium ahead of the Mazda3 (+10.1%), Kia Cerato (-12.7%) and Morning (-3.7%). Notice also the Ford Everest (+1353.7%) up to #10 and the Toyota Wigo (#11) and Mazda CX-8 (#13) making it three new launches in the August Top 15.
