South Africa July 2019: Isuzu (+28.5%), Suzuki (+27.5%), Renault (+12%) headline another market slide (-3.8%)

The Isuzu D-Max breaks into the South African Top 5 for the first time.

New vehicle sales in South Africa continue to slide at -3.8% year-on-year in July to 46.077, leading to a year-to-date tally down -3.7% to 303.701. Toyota (-21%) is hit hard but conformably remains atop the manufacturers ranking with 22% share vs. 16.5% for the Volkswagen Group (-1%) almost stable and 10.5% for Nissan (+6.4%) in solid shape. Isuzu (+28.3%), Suzuki (+27.5%) and Renault (+12%) post the best performances in the Top 10, while new launch Haval remains at #12.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (-11.2%) drops four percentage points of share on June to 6.5%, still a fair distance above the #2, the VW Polo Vivo (+12.3%)  in excellent shape. In contrast, the VW Polo (-10.8%) and Ford Ranger (-11.3%) also drop double-digits in the remainder of the Top 4. The Isuzu D-Max breaks into the South African Top 5 for the first time, just as the Toyota Hiace, replacing the Toyota Quantum, lands directly at #6 with 3.3% share. The Ford Ecosport (+45.9%) and Hyundai i20 (+32.6%) post the largest gains in the Top 10.
