Indonesia July 2019: Wuling (+94.5%) defies plunging market (-17.1%) thanks to Almaz

The Wuling Almaz breaks into the Indonesian Top 20 in July.

9/06/2020 update: Now with Top 125 All-models.

The Indonesian new vehicle market sinks a painful -17.1% year-on-year in July to just 89.110 wholesales, meaning the YTD volume is now down -13.7% to 570.331. Brand leader Toyota (-16%) roughly follows the market to continue dominating the Indonesian charts head and shoulders at 33% share. That’s more than double its immediate follower Honda (-8.7%) edging past Mitsubishi (-21.7%) for third place YTD while Daihatsu (-27.6%) is up two spots on June to #3 despite a devastating loss and Suzuki (-22.2%) rounds up the Top 5. We have to wait until the tail end of the Top 10 to find year-on-year gainers, starting with Chinese local producer Wuling (+94.3%) almost doubling its sales to hit 2.5% share, its highest so far in 2019. Izusu (+1.1%) only edges up while Nissan (+248.5%) continues to surf on the success of the new Livina, a rebadged Mitsubishi Xpander. Further down, Dongfeng (+560.6%), BMW (+158.1%), Mini (+79.5%), Lexus (+53.1%) and Hyundai (+24.6%) impress but all remain at or below 0.5% share.

Model-wise, the Toyota Avanza (+16%) bounces back up 5 spots on a paltry June result to reclaim the monthly top spot for the 6th time in the past 12 months, cementing its YTD lead (+3.1%). The Toyota Rush (-16.7%) follows suit at #2, both knocking June leader the Mitsubishi Xpander (-23.7%) to #3. The Honda Brio (+12.2%) remains at #4 above the Toyota Calya (-15.3%) and Suzuki Carry Pikap (+13.9%). Excellent performances of the Honda HR-V (+128.4%) and Daihatsu Ayla (+13.1%) just below. We have a newcomer in the Top 20 this month: the Wuling Almaz just over 1.000 wholesales, which is in fact a rebadged Baojun 530 manufactured locally.
