Chile July 2019: Mitsubishi (+23.8%), Hyundai (+16.1%), Chinese (+12.8%) edge market up 0.6%

The MG ZS is now among Chile’s Top 15 best-selling vehicles.

The Chilean new car market scores its first year-on-year uptick since January at +0.6% to 31.474 units, leading to a year-to-date tally now down -6.4% to 218.494. Chevrolet (+1.9%) is once agin the most popular carmaker with 9.4% share, distancing Kia (-2.3%) at 8.1% and a tight trio led by Hyundai (+16.1%) ahead of Suzuki (-9.4%) and Nissan (-6%). Mitsubishi (+23.8%) delivers the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 with Peugeot (+3.9%) also strong. Further down, Mercedes (+70%), Maxus (+63.8%), the Great Wall Group (+47%), Dongfeng (+41.3%), MG (+27.7%), Changan (+14.3%) and JAC (+11%) impress just as Chinese carmakers as a whole lift 12.8% to 15.6% share vs. 14.7% so far in 2019.

Model-wise, the Kia Rio (+23.6%) 3peats at #1 and is joined by the Kia Morning (+15.2%) at #2, making the July ranking a Kia 1-2. The Chevrolet Sail (-3%) is knocked down to #3, the Toyota Hilux (+21.1%) leaps up two spots on July to #4 and is now #5 YTD, while the Hyundai Accent (+22.6%), Grand i10 (+11%), Mitsubishi L200 (+3.9%) and Suzuki Baleno (+3.2%) all post year-on-year upticks in the Top 10. The MG ZS remains at an outstanding 13th place.
