Netherlands June 2019: Tesla Model 3 reclaims lead, breaks records in market down -10.9%

The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands for the 2nd time this year.

New car sales in the Netherlands drop a stiff -10.9% year-on-year in June to 41.671 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -10.5% to 226.482. Opel (-9.4%) roughly follows the market to take the lead of the brands ranking with 9.4% share, toppling Volkswagen (-27.7%) in difficulty at #2 with 8.7% of the Dutch market vs. 10.9% so far in 2019. Toyota (+5.3%) eclipses Peugeot (-4.1%) to climb on the podium, Tesla surges 129.9% year-on-year and 15 spots on May to #6, a new record for the brand (previous best: #7 last March) with Mercedes (+15.9%) and Ford (+10.7%) the only other Top 10 gainers. Further down, Jeep (+22.1%) and Honda (+12.8%) also make themselves noticed.

The Tesla Model 3 easily snaps the models pole position for the 2nd time in the past 4 months after last March, smashing its volume and share record at 2.487 sales and 6% vs. 2.195 and 5.6% in March. The Opel Karl (-4.6%) remains at a splendid 2nd place ahead of the Renault Clio (-6.2%), Toyota Aygo (-5.4%) and Ford Focus (+55.6%). Although it remains #1 YTD, the VW Polo (-38.7%) is in total freefall at #6 while the Opel Crossland X (+112.5%) breaks into the Dutch Top 10 for the first time, the Peugeot 208 (+88.8%) enjoys heavy rebates on the outgoing generation and the new Toyota Corolla leaps up 19 spots on May to #10.
