Thailand April 2019: Isuzu D-Max reclaims top spot, Mazda2 up 60.3% to #3 in market up 8.7%

Mazda2 sales soar 60.3% year-on-year in Thailand this month.

The Thai new light vehicle market soars 8.7% year-on-year in April to 86.076 units, marking 20 consecutive months of 8% year-on-year gains or more. The year-to-date tally is now up 10.5% to 349.625 sales. At opposite ends of the Top 5 brands, Toyota (+15.9%) and Mazda (+38%) both easily outpace the market, the former hitting 31.3% share and the latter at 7.1%, Even though they are all in positive, Honda (+8.6%), Mitsubishi (+5%) and Isuzu (+4.2%) underperform this month. In the remainder of the Top 10, only Mercedes (+19.4%) and MG (+14.1%) gain market share year-on-year, whereas Ford (-13.4%) and Suzuki (-7.8%) both struggle. Further down, Kia (+892.3%), Porsche (+368.4%), Volvo (+125%), Subaru (+46.4%) and Hyundai (+22.5%) shine.

In the models ranking, the Isuzu D-Max (+5.5%) is putting up a fight, snapping the pole position away from 2018 leader the Toyota Hilux (+31.2%) for the third time in the past 5 months. The Mazda2 (+60.8%) surges to third place, dislodging the Ford Ranger (-11.8%) just as the Honda Jazz (+25.4%), Toyota Yaris (+14.4%) and Yaris Ativ (+13.5%) both post very solid upticks in the remainder of the Top 10. Just below, the Toyota Camry (+854.1%), Honda HR-V (+35.9%) and Nissan Navara (+26.7%) are all in excellent shape, the Mitsubishi Xpander continues to lead new launches at #15 but the Toyota Corolla (-46.5%) is now eagerly awaiting its new generation.
