The Ibiza (+74.3%) lifts Seat up 28.5% in Portugal this month.

The Portuguese new car market slips down -3.8% year-on-year in May to  22.724 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -4.7% to 103.290. Seat (+28.5%) is the standout performer in the Top 10, with BMW (+7.2%) and Toyota (+4.5%) also sup but Opel (-14.5% struggling. Further down, Porsche (+205%), Hyundai (+52.5%), Jeep (+42.1%) and Mazda (+18%) make themselves noticed.

Similarly to the brands ranking, the Renault Clio (-19.5%) comfortably remains on top despite freefalling as the new generation is due shortly, just as the Seat Ibiza (+74.3%) surges up to #2 ahead of the Renault Megane (+13.9%), Peugeot 208 (-2.7%) and Renault Captur (-28%). The Fiat Tipo (+189.7%), Nissan Micra (+91.5%), Nissan Qashqai (+36.2%) and Mercedes A-Class (+22.8%) all post spectacular gains in the remainder of the Top 10. Helped by the new hatch, the Toyota Corolla (+1417.6%) is up 10 spots on last month to #23 while the VW T-Cross (#51) tops new launches (<12 months) above the Citroen C5 Aircross (#62) and Tesla Model 3 (#73).
