Iraq January-May 2019: Mitsubishi L200 storms into 2nd place in market soaring 63.9%

The Mitsubishi L200 is up to #2 in Iraq so far in 2019.

The Iraqi new car market is resolutely on the mend with 5 months 2019 data showing a stunning 63.9% year-on-year uptick to 30.257 units, easily headed towards a third consecutive year on gains and the largest annual volume since 2014. Kia (+22.9%) comfortably remains the most popular brand but sees its share thaw from 52.3% a year ago to 39.2%. Hyundai (+120.7%) manages to almost double the market growth to hit 22.1% share with Toyota (+37.4%) round up the podium like last year. Mitsubishi (+2603.1%) sees its sales multiplied by 25 year-on-year to rank #4, while Renault (+380%), Jeep (+185.4%), Dodge (+157.5%) and Land Rover (+150%) also posting fantastic scores in the Top 10. Ford (#12), Cadillac (#14) and Ram (#18) are back in the Iraqi market.

Over in the models ranking, below the Kia Frontier (-10.8%) faithful to its traditional pole position, the Mitsubishi L200 is up 50-fold and 23 spots year-on-year to land in 2nd place, it ranked #10 over the Full Year 2018. The L200 edges past the Kia Sorento (+85.2%), Hyundai Tucson (+146.6%) and Elantra (+152.6%) all also outpacing the market. Below the Jeep Grand Cherokee (+311.8%) and Renault Symbol (+140%), the Renault Duster (#12) is the best-selling new launch above the Nissan X-Trail (#21) and Ford Explorer (#28).
