Croatia May 2019: Opel (+54.7%), Peugeot (+45.1%) lift market to highest monthly volume this decade

First Top 10 finish in Croatia for the Opel Crossland X

New car sales in Croatia gain 4.5% year-on-year in May to 9.149 units, the largest result for any month this decade and first time above the 9.000 mark. As a result the year-to-date tally tilts into positive at +0.9% to 29.921. Renault (+0.2%) remains the best-seller carmaker in the country, a meagre 23 units above Opel (+54.7%) realising the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 8 above Peugeot (+45.1%) at #4 just as Volkswagen (-25%) dives but stays #1 YTD. Jeep (+378.6%), Volvo (+120.8%), Toyota (+88.8%), Nissan (+58.1%), Mitsubishi (+48.6%), Mazda (+24.1%) and Kia (+17%) also post spectacular gains.

The Renault Clio (-24.6%) holds onto the models pole position despite a ghastly drop and snaps the YTD lead off the Skoda Octavia (-26.1%) down to #8 this month. Pre-summer rentals lift the Fiat 500 (+18.6%) directly to #2 ahead of the Opel Corsa (+95.1%) and Renault Captur (+61.6%) also likely to be artificially boosted by rental sales. After the Grandland X last month, it’s the turn of the Opel Crossland X (+765.7%) to sign its very first Top 10 finish in Croatia at #7 while the Grandland X (+436.4%) is down to a still very impressive #13. Notice also the Dacia Duster (+53.6%) now #3 YTD, the Peugeot 2008 at #9 and the 3008 at #14.
