Texas (USA) Full Year 2018: Ram 1500 and Ford F-250 post largest gains in pickup paradise
Ram 1500 sales soar 14.3% year-on-year in Texas in 2018.
Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics, after exploring Full Year 2017 State by State sales in the U.S., we continue on our zoom in on the largest American States with Texas for our second ever BSCB update dedicated to this State. At 28.7 million inhabitants, Texas is the second most populous State in the U.S. after California and the second largest after Alaska at 268.600 sq miles (or 696.241 km2), larger than France. Main cities are Houston (2.2 million inhabitants) and San Antonio (1.4 million).
Texas is by very far the most important American State for full-size pickup sales: whereas it is home to “just” 8% of the total population of the United States, it accounts for 1 in 6 full-size pickups sales. Texas routinely outsells California, the #2 pickup volume market by a rate of 3 to 1. The Houston metro area would rank #5 among pickup markets if it were a separate state and Dallas would be #7, and more pickups are sold just in the Dallas and Houston areas combined than in any other US state, including No. 2 California. True to form, the four best-selling vehicles in Texas are full-size pickups, although this is not the most pickup-heavy charts with smaller States Oklahoma and Wyoming managing a full 5 pickups in the 2018 Top 5. In fact the Top 2 best-sellers post lukewarm scores with the Ford F-150 (-2.4%) down and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (+0.1%) only edging up. The Ram 1500 (+14.3%) and Ford F-250 (+7.2%) on the other hand are extremely strong, just as the Toyota RAV4 (+1.7%) leaps up two spots on 2017 to ensure there are no passenger cars in the 2018 Top 5.
