We can share with you today detailed models sales data for California thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics. You can checkout the overall USA Full Year 2018 State by State report here. California is by far the most populous State in America with 39.6 million inhabitants, and it has its own specific favourites. Indeed going totally against the national grain, the Top 4 best-sellers remains entirely composed passenger cars ever since we started tracking California in 2011, so for at least the past 8 years but most probably the past decade. This makes California by far the most passenger car-heavy State, with only 3 States coming close: Florida (Top 2), District of Columbia (4 in Top 5) and Nevada (3 in Top 5).

California is also one of only 7 States with no pickup in their Top 5 alongside Connecticut, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. The Honda Civic (-17.9%) is the most popular vehicle in California for the 4th consecutive year despite a ghastly fall, snapping its only 2018 State win here. It now distances the Toyota Camry (-10.9%) but the event of the year is without a doubt in third place where we welcome the Tesla Model 3 selling 43.5% of its national total here in California. The Honda Accord (-18.4%) skids down two spots to #4 while the Toyota RAV4 (+2.5%) remains at #5.
