Sweden February 2019: VW Golf outsells all Volvos in 8th consecutive double-digit market decline

The VW Golf is the best-selling nameplate in Sweden in February.

New car sales in Sweden endure an 8th consecutive double-digit year-on-year drop in February at -14.9% to just 23.146 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down 13.1% to 43.624. Homegrown market leader Volvo (-32.7%) is hit particularly hard but remains #1 at 19.5% vs. 16% for Volkswagen (-5.8%) which manages to contain its fall somewhat. In contrast the next 3 best-selling brand all post a market-defying year-on-year gain: Kia (+11.1%), Mercedes (+8.2%) and Skoda (+5.6%) all ignore the depressed conditions as does Renault (+6.9%) in the remainder of the Top 10. Toyota (-37.6%) on the other hand is annihilated. Further down, notice Jaguar (+537.5%), Land Rover (+225.9%), Tesla (+103.4%), Alfa Romeo (+90.9%), Mitsubishi (+94.8%), Mini (+33.2%) and Seat (+9.5%). Model-wise, the VW Golf (+33.1%), outsells all Volvos, starting with the S/V60 (-6.4%), S/V90 (-55.6%) and XC60 (-20.7%). The Kia Niro (+127.1%), Mitsubishi Outlander (+124.1%) and Skoda Kodiaq (+134.2%) all post spectacular gains in the remainder of the Top 8 and the Seat Tarraco (#92) graduates to best-selling recent launch (<12 months).
