Slovakia January 2019: Hyundai, Dacia, Renault strong, Kia Cee’d up to #2 in market down 11.8%

The Kia Cee’d is up 33.2% to climb to #2 in Slovakia in January.

New car sales in Slovakia sink -11.8% year-on-year in January to 7.096 registrations. Brand leader Skoda (-20.7%) falls almost twice as fast as the market but remains comfortably in the lead at 19.5% share, double that of # Hyundai (+31.4%) posting a spectacular gain to overtake Volkswagen (-20.6%). Peugeot (-2.9%) is up 3 spots on December to #4, eclipsing Kia (-23.9%) while Renault (+94.4%), Dacia (+59%) and Opel (+10.2%) also score superb results in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Lada (+44.7%), Alfa Romeo (+42.9%), Subaru (+22.7%) and Volvo (+16%) are the only double-digit gainers just as Nissan (-62.1%), Mini (-61.1%), Land Rover (-47.3%), Ford (-38.8%), Audi (-36.4%), Mercedes (-36.3%), Suzuki (-34.3%), Seat (-30.8%), Fiat (-28.3%), Mitsubishi (-27.6%), Toyota (-21.7%), BMW (-21.3%) and Citroen (-20.1%) all dive. In the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (-27.3%) reclaims the top spot for the first time since last November despite a hefty loss, while the Kia Cee’d soars 33.2% to 2nd place overall, displacing the Skoda Fabia (-61.6%) and Rapid (-22.8%). The Hyundai i30 (+7.2%) rounds up the Top 5 with a positive result, while the Skoda Karoq (+53.9%) is up to #7.
