New Caledonia (France) February 2019: Dacia leads, Duster up to 11.8% share

The Dacia Duster is by far the best-selling nameplate in New Caledonia in February.

New Caledonia is a French overseas archipelago located north-east of Australia. After imploding -25.6% in January, new car sales significantly slow their decline at -2.6% in February to 582 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down 14.8% to 1.061. Dacia (+93.5%) brilliantly takes control of the brands ranking at 15.7% followed by Peugeot (+9.7%) at 12%, the latter now #1 YTD at 11.3% (+23.7%). Renault (+72.2%) also shines and gains 3 spots on last month to #3, all overtaking last month’s leader Toyota (+3.8%) down to #4. Volkswagen (+60%) and Mitsubishi (+38.5%) also impress further down whereas Hyundai (-43.1%), Suzuki (-33.3%), Ford (-18.4%) and Kia (-13.8%) all struggle. Model-wise, the Dacia Duster (+131%) shoots up to a record 11.8% share, selling 2.6 times the amount of any other nameplate in market with the Ford Ranger (-7.1%) and Toyota RAV4 (+140%) closing out the podium. The Citroen Berlingo (+133.3%), Peugeot 208 (+133.3%), Renault Clio (+120%) and Toyota Hilux (+80%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 while last month’s #1 the Toyota Yaris steps out of the Top 20.
