Austria February 2019: BMW only improving brand in Top 12, VW T-Roc on podium in market down 10.8%

The X3 (+26.5%) helps BMW sales up 3.5% in Austria in February.

New car sales in Austria continue to plunge at -10.8% year-on-year in February to 23.640 registrations, bringing the year-to-date volume down 11.2% to 48.897 units. Volkswagen (-1.2%) resists much better than the market and comfortably holds onto the brands pole position at 18.8% share, distancing Skoda (-11.3%), Seat (-3.3%) and Ford (-3.2%) while Opel (-24.8%) is in great difficulty at #5. In fact only BMW (+3.5%) manages a year-on-year uptick among the Top 12 brands, with Audi (-42%), Fiat (-22.1%), Mercedes (-15%) and Renault (-14.9%) also hit hard. Below, Tesla (+374.3%), Lamborghini (+200%), Smart (+76.7%), Volvo (+15.1%) and Dacia (+11.5%) impress.

Model-wise, the VW Group monopolises the Top 6 with the VW Golf (-15.7%), Skoda Octavia (-0.6%), the VW T-Roc (+65.5%) scoring its 2nd ever Austrian podium finish after last October at #3, the VW Polo (+15%), Skoda Fabia (-31.2%) and VW Bus (+134.6%). In fact there are only two non-VW Group nameplates in the Top 14: the Ford Focus (+117.1%) up 16 spots on January to land at #7 and the Renault Clio (-3%) up 6 to #12. Notice also the Ford Ecosport (+160.7%), Mazda CX-3 (+50.7%), Suzuki SX4 (+50.3%), Renault Captur (+37.9%), BMW X3 (+26.5%), Peugeot 3008 (+20.4%) and Dacia Duster (+20.3%) among the best performers in the remainder of the Top 50.
