Uruguay January 2019: Renault #1, Citroen (+81.3%), Peugeot (+54.6%), Toyota (+27.1%) shine in market down 27.2%

Citroen sales in Uruguay are up 81.3% in a market down 27.2%.

After freefalling -19.6% over the Full Year 2018, new car sales in Uruguay start in an ever worse fashion with January registrations imploding down 27.2% to 2.975. Just as its Kwid managed its first ever win in the world last year, Renault (-13.9%) resists much better than the market and snaps the brands pole position for the first time since last March, followed by Suzuki (+11%) recording the only year-on-year gain in the Top 6. Citroen (+81.3%), Peugeot (+54.6%) and Toyota (+27.1%) post fantastic gains in the remainder of the Top 10 but Volkswagen (-51.6%), Nissan (-50.7%), Chevrolet (-46.1%), Fiat (-41.9%) and Hyundai (-32.8%) all struggle mightily. Further down, JAC (+200%), Mitsubishi (+116.7%), Mercedes (+107.7%), Dongfeng (+85.7%), Great Wall (+61.5%) and Kia (+24.5%) all swim upstream with stunning upticks. Despite the above, Chinese carmakers as a whole lose 36.1% to 8.4% share.
