Turkey January 2019: Fiat Egea #1, Renault Clio up 19.8% in market down 59%

The Renault Clio swims upstream in Turkey this month with a 19.8% uptick in a market tumbling down 59%.

Turkish new light vehicle sales start 2019 the way they ended 2018: in hell. After imploding down 75% in September and 77% in October, Turkey seemed to have been on the mend in November (-42%) and December (-43%), but it just wasn’t meant to be: January deliveries plunge 59% to just 14.373 units. Renault (-60.4%) matches the market and reclaims the brands top spot off Fiat (-51.8%) with Ford (-49.7%) rounding up the podium above Volkswagen (-63.5%) and Hyundai (-50.1%) rallying back up 7 spots on December. Peugeot (-27%), Nissan (-28.1%) and Honda (-40.4%) resist best in the Top 10 while Audi (-51.1%) and Dacia (-59.5%) manage to keep their head above the (market) water. Further down, Jeep (-1%), Suzuki (-3%), and Volvo (-7.6%) are the only brands in Turkey to manage to contain their fall to the single-digits, whereas Toyota (-87.3%), Isuzu (-86.8%), Skoda (-84.2%), Porsche (-79.1%), Seat (-79%), Mercedes (-78.3%) and Opel (-73.8%) are the hardest hit.

Model-wise, the Fiat Egea (-17.9%) confirms its domination after topping the annual charts for 3 straight years, while the Renault Clio (+19.8%) surprises with a market-defying double-digit gain to land in 2nd place. The Honda Civic (-40.4%) is up two spots on last month to #3, distancing the Ford Transit (-20.3%), Renault Megane (-76.6%) and VW Passat (-22.8%). The Peugeot 301 (+29.9%), Hyundai Tucson (+26.5%) and Audi A4 (+11.6%) are the only additional gainers in the Top 20, with the Volvo V40 (+2633.3%), BMW X1 (+72.6%), Opel Grandland X (+43.3%), Citroen Berlingo (+38.1%), Peugeot Partner (+23.2%), Volvo S60 (+11%) and Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom (+10.9%) also shining further down. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (#73) tops recent launches (<12 months) ahead of the Ford Ecosport (#76) and Hyundai Kona (#79).
