The Syrian new car market has bounced back: after freefalling over the past half-decade due to the civil war that has ravaged the country, sales are up 24.3% to 9.918 units, the largest annual volume since 2015. Hyundai (+12.2%) and Kia (+52%) are the only two carmakers to have maintained activity in Syria: they add up to 99.3% of the market, leaving only scraps to Nissan (-31.5%) and Genesis (-75%). The Hyundai Elantra (+110.5%) more than doubles its sales to reclaim the models’ top spot it last held in 2015, knocking last year’s leader the Hyundai Tucson (-20.9%) to $2. The Kia Cerato (+462.1%) leaps onto the podium while the Hyundai HR Truck (+81.3%) and Kia Sorento (+88.3%) also manage fantastic gains to round up the Top 5.
