Slovakia Full Year 2018: Skoda Fabia reclaims top spot in market up for 5th year in a row

New car sales in Slovakia enjoy a 5th consecutive annual gain in 2018 at +2.1% to 98.080 registrations. Brand leader Skoda (+2.4%) matches the market growth to maintain its share at an ultra-dominant 19.7%, distancing Volkswagen (-4.2%), Hyundai (+5.6%), Kia (+2.7%) and Peugeot (+19.3%) posting the largest gain in the Top 15 to close a Top 5 unchanged on 2017. Toyota (+13.3%), Citroen (+14%) and Dacia (+10.5%) also impress near the top whereas Nissan (-20.7%), BMW (-20.6%), Suzuki (-12.7%) and Mercedes (-11.3%) struggle. Among smaller brands, Jeep (+94.3%), Volvo (+29.3%), Jaguar (+28.8%), Lada (+23.5%) and Subaru (+12.1%) make themselves noticed.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Fabia (+2.4%) is helped by its facelift to reclaim the overall position off the Skoda Octavia (-5.5%). This is the third time in the past 4 years that the Fabia is the best-selling vehicle in Slovakia. The Rapid (-2%), about to be replaced by the Scala, ensures the podium is 100% Skoda for the 6th consecutive year. The Hyundai i30 (+13.7%) is the most popular foreigner this year (albeit produced locally), overtaking the Kia Cee’d (+3.2%) and VW Golf (-18.2%) while the Skoda Karoq ranks at a splendid 8th place for its first full year in market and the Kia Sportage (+19%) post a very strong gain but remains 10th as the Skoda Superb is knocked out of the Top 10.
