Romania January 2019: Dacia up 45.8% to hit highest share since August 2013 in market up 18.8%

Dacia Sandero sales are up 138.2% year-on-year at home in January.

New car sales in Romania go against the grain of most of the rest of the European Union with a splendid 18.8% uptick to 13.952 registrations in January. Dacia (+45.8%) vastly outpaces its home market to hit a stunning 37.8% share, its highest at home in over 5 years, since August 2013 (39.5%). Renault (+70%) does even better to step up to #2 with 8.8% share, distancing Ford (+18.7%) and Skoda (+3.4%). Volkswagen (-26.9%) lodges a very cringeworthy performance at #5 ahead of Toyota (+63.3%) and Hyundai (+38.1%) both very dynamic. Nissan (+99.5%) however is the best performing brand in the Top 15, while further down Ssangyong (+366.7%), Lexus (+180%), Jaguar (+162.5%), Volvo (+104.4%), Honda (+57.1%), Mitsubishi (+37%), Mazda (+36.8%) and BMW (+34.6%) also impress.

The Dacia Logan (+53.7%) surges to 22.2% share, its highest since July 2016 (24.5%), followed as usual by the Duster (+14.2%) and Sandero (+138.2%) while the Renault Clio (+174.4%) remains at #4 like in December and the Skoda Octavia (+32.7%) holds onto the #5 spot. The Nissan Qashqai (+198.4%) is up 21 spots on last month to #6 and the Ford Ecosport (+5460%) celebrates one year in market with another Top 10 finish at #9. The VW Polo (+273.6%), Toyota Aygo (+138.1%), Mazda CX-5 (+118.8%), Toyota C-HR (+90.3%), Hyundai i20 (+82.1%), Hyundai Tucson (+78.1%) and Renault Captur (+76.8%) also shine further down. The Volvo XC40 (#71) is the best-selling newcomer.
