New Caledonia (France) January 2019: Toyota Yaris and Hilux top market down 25.6%

The Toyota Yaris is the best-selling vehicle in New Caledonia in January.

New car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas archipelago located north-east of Australia, start the year in the most depressing fashion: down an abysmal 25.6% to just 494 units. Toyota (+10.3%) and Peugeot (+48.6%) however buck the trend to top the brands ranking, distancing Citroen (-34.4%), Ford (-45.5%) and Hyundai (-2.8%) up 5 spots on December to #5. Mitsubishi (+177.8%) is the most impressive Top 10 carmaker where Dacia (-72.5%), Renault (-38.5%) and Kia (-35.7%) all implode. Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (+5%) and Hilux (+26.7%) are the best-sellers this month ahead of the Peugeot 3008 (+142.9%) and 208 (+220%) with the Suzuki Swift (-11.1%) rounding out the Top 5. Leader last year, the Ford Ranger (-70.6%) crumbles down to #7 while the 2016 best-seller, the Dacia Duster (-58.3%), is also in great difficulty.
