The Ford Ranger has topped the New Caledonian charts for 8 of the past 10 years.
New a small French overseas archipelago located north-east of Australia, with sales counted separately to metropolitan France. The market is down 3.9% year-on-year in 2018 to 8.213 registrations, with Toyota (+15.4%) up two spots on 2017 to convincingly take the lead of the brands ranking ahead of Peugeot (-3.4%), Dacia (-19.5%0 and Citroen (-5.2%) while last year’s leader, Ford (-29%) implodes to #5. Suzuki (+18.1%) and Subaru (+7.3%) also impress in the Top 10- but Renault (-15.9%) and Hyundai (-12.8%) are in difficulty. Further down, Honda (+366.7%), Jaguar (+125%), Land Rover (+72.1%), Mitsubishi (+53%) and Porsche (+20%) all post spectacular gains but the Chinese, allowed here thanks to less stringent pollution and safety regulations, have almost disappeared with Great Wall (-92.9%) down to just 3 sales and BYD (-100%) now out.
Over in the models ranking, the Ford Ranger (+8.8%) reclaims the overall top spot after two years of domination by the Dacia Duster, thus scoring its 8th win in the past 10 years and accounting for 65% of Ford’s sales in the archipelago vs. 45% in 2017. The Toyota Hilux (+13.6%) makes it a 1-2 pickup, while the Dacia Duster (-13.6%), #1 in 2016 and 2017, is knocked down to #3. The Toyota Yaris (+133.9%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 above the Subaru XV (+50.7%) whereas the Citroen C3 (-27.7%), Isuzu D-Max (-21%) and Peugeot 208 (-16.2%) are in great difficulty. Below, the Mitsubishi L200 (+248.5%) and Peugeot 3008 (+132.5%) shine while the Citroen C3 Aircross (#24) and Hyundai Kona (#31) are the best-selling new launches.
