Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you today December and Full Year 2018 Scottish registrations. Keep in mind this is only a zoom in by UK nation, all sales figures are already included in the UK Full Year 2018 update. Scotland fares the worst of all UK nations with sales plunging -8.2% year-on-year to 186.683 units. This year the Ford Fiesta (+3.1%) manages to snap the annual top spot off the Vauxhall Corsa (-19.3%) for only the 2nd time in the past 11 years after 2014. The Corsa even slipped out of the monthly Top 10 in December… Below, the Ford Focus (-17.2%) and VW Polo (-10.8%) hold onto their positions despite steep falls as the Polo snapped its very first monthly win in December, but the VW Golf (-22.2%) does even better: up one spot to #5 thanks to the imploding of the Vauxhall Astra (#5 in 2017) out of the 2018 Top 10. Consolation prize for Vauxhall: the Crossland X is the success story of the year, breaking into the monthly Top 10 for the first time in January (#8), then into the Top 5 in February (#5) and ending the year at #6 overall with 1.8% share. Below the Mini (-22.6%) stuck at #7, the Nissan Qashqai (-6.3%) overtakes the Vauxhall Mokka X (-20.1%) and Renault Clio (-26.3%) to rank #8. Besides the Crossland X, a handful of other nameplates made their entrance within the Scottish monthly Top 10 this year, the most impressive being the two Volkswagen SUVs: the Tiguan landed directly at #3 in October while the VW T-Roc broke into the Top 10 in July at #8, then settling in at #8 in October, #3 in November and #5 in December. The BMW 4 Series ranked #9 in May, the Vauxhall Grandland X #6 in June, the Skoda Octavia #7 in November and #8 in December. Other great performers include the Toyota Aygo up to a record #2 in October and the Mini Countryman scoring its 2nd ever Scottish Top 10 at a record #7 in December.
