Bulgaria Full Year 2018: Dacia and Renault top market up 11.2%

Dacia has now been the best-selling carmaker in Bulgaria for 6 straight years.

Consult over 35 years of Bulgarian Historical Data here.

New car sales in Bulgaria record a 4th consecutive double-digit gain in 2018 at +11.2% to 41.252 registrations. A caveat to this and the below figures is that Bulgarian sales are heavily impacted by re-exports to other European Union countries, with a large portion of new car sales never making it to local roads – as much as 30% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. Accordingly, the best-selling brands and models do not reflect the reality on Bulgarian roads, bar a few exceptions. Dacia (+8.9%) remains the best-selling carmaker in Bulgaria for the 6th year in a row with 11.3% share, distancing stablemate Renault (+8.5%) at 10.5%, giving the Renault Group a 21.8% share of the market vs. 22.3% a year ago. Skoda shoots up 32.7% to leap on the third step of the podium, knocking Toyota (+13.6%) down. Volkswagen (+30.7%) and Nissan (+38.2%) both gain three spots to #5 and #6 respectively and Citroen (+51.1%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10. Kia (-31.9%)   struggles sightly and drops 5 ranks to #9. Below, Ssangyong (+217.6%), Jeep (+197%), Bentley (+175%), Mitsubishi (+168.5%), Seat (+40.5%), Mini (+40.2%), Mercedes (+37%), Alfa Romeo (+34%), Jaguar (+32.6%), Subaru (+32.1%), Lada (+24.8%), Infiniti (+24%), Fiat (+23.3%), Lexus (+20.7%) and BMW (+19.5%) all post solid scores as well as local producer Great Wall (+118.4%) thanks to a Border Police order of H6 SUVs delivered in September when it ranked #3 brand.
