Switzerland November 2018: Market down 9.9%, Mercedes (+23%) places 3 in Top 6, Rolls Royce Cullinan lands
Quite fittingly in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, after the Lamborghini Urus last June, it’s in Switzerland that the Rolls Royce Cullinan makes its first appearance in a worldwide sales ranking.
Indirect consequences of WLTP-triggered stock shortages continue to impact the Swiss new car market negatively, with November marking the third significant year-on-year loss in a row at -9.9% to 24.103 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume down 3.8% to 272.177. Although in the lead again (but just), Volkswagen sinks another 18% to 10.3% share, whereas Mercedes soars 23% to 9.6% and BMW is up 6% to 9.3% to round up the podium. Skoda (-6%), although in difficulty, takes advantage of another extremely weak month by Audi (-40%) to step up to #4 brand year-to-date. Toyota (+20%) and Peugeot (+16%) shine at the tail end of the Top 10, while further down Lamborghini (+550%) send flying up by the new Urus, Jaguar (+167%), Mitsubishi (+81%), DS (+73%), Rolls Royce (+50%), Bentley (+33%), Jeep (+25%), Chevrolet (+24%) and Lexus (+21%) are among the best performers.
The Skoda Octavia (-13%) remains comfortably in the models pole position despite a double-digit drop which is actually the smallest on the podium: the VW Golf (-16%) now back to #2 YTD and the VW Tiguan (-48%) do a lot worse. Mercedes manages the incredible feat of posting three nameplates in the November Top 6, all posting spectacular gains: the GLC (+71%), A Class (+89%) and C Class (+56%). The Data Sandero (+2%) is up 12 spots on October to #7, the VW T-Roc celebrates one year n market at #8 and the BMW 2 Series (+27%) is up 11 ranks on last month to #9. Notice also the Hyundai Kona (+178%), BMW X3 (+131%), Seat Ateca (+73%), Peugeot 208 (+66%), BMW 1 Series (+61%) and Fiat 500X (+49%) making waves in the Top 50. The Volvo XC40 (#39) is the best-selling newcomer (<12 months) ahead of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (#75) and Jaguar E-Pace (#89) while the Lamborghini Urus is up to #182, the Jaguar i-Pace up to #196 and the Rolls Royce Cullinan makes its first official appearance at #319 with one sale.
