Mexico November 2018: Chevrolet Aveo confirms #1 spot, Kia Rio breaks volume record in 19th straight market decline

The Chevrolet Aveo is the best-selling vehicle in Mexico in November.

New light vehicle sales in Mexico endure an 18th straight month of year-on-year decline in November at -5.4% to 133.806 units, bringing the year-to-date tally down 6.7% to 1.279.630. Our much improved coverage of this market continues with complete models data for Acura, Audi, BMW, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, Nissan, Renault, Seat, Volkswagen and Volvo. Brand leader Nissan (-14%) falls faster than the market for the 10th month in a row but retains a strong hold on the market at 21.3% share. Chevrolet (-4%) improves to 17.4% vs. 15.5% YTD while Volkswagen (-3%) rounds up the podium at 11.7%. Suzuki (+25%), Toyota (+13%), Kia (+9%) and Mazda (+0.1%) swim upstream with year-on-year gains. Further down, Land Rover (+173%), Jaguar (+167%), Alfa Romeo (+85%), Mini (+25%), Acura (+15%), Buick (+15%) and Mercedes (+11%) also do well.

The Kia Rio breaks its monthly volume record in Mexico.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Aveo (+84%) posts another solid win, becoming the first nameplate since the Chevrolet Beat in December 2017 to sell more than 10.000 units in a single month in Mexico. The YTD top spot is however out of reach, with the Nissan Versa (-21%) leading by over 11.000 sales as of end-November. The Chevrolet Beat (-22%) endures a harsh decline but climbs back up onto the podium, ahead of the VW Vento (+9%), Nissan Pickup (-4%), March (-9%) and Sentra (-18%). The Kia Rio (+19%) breaks its volume record at 3.246 vs. 3.016 in December 2017 and the Nissan Kicks (+8%) is inside the Top 10 for the 2nd time in the past 3 months. The Toyota Prius (+109%), Mazda2 (+92%) and Kia Soul (+6%%) also impress while the Renault Oroch (#53) leads recent launches (<12 months) above the Seat Arona (#60) and Toyota C-HR (#73). We welcome the Cadillac XT4 at #210 and the Jaguar i-Pace at #288.
