Vietnam October 2018: Wigo, Innova lift Toyota up 92%, market up 32%

The Toyota Wigo is up to 2nd place overall for its 2nd month on the Vietnamese market.

New vehicle sales in Vietnam surge 32.1% year-on-year to 28.899 units, tilting the year-to-date volume into positive at +0.8% to 221.879. Toyota (+92%) is instrumental in this market uptick, securing 29.2% of the market vs. just 16.8% for archenemy Thaco-Kia (+7%). Toyota now stands just 103 units below Thaco-Kia year-to-date and should in all logic surpass it next month. Honda (+244%) posts the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 thanks to the (late) arrival of the HR-V directly at #12 with Mitsubishi (+89%) and Chevrolet (+62%) also strong while further down Peugeot (+2356%) and Nissan (+215%) stand out. Model-wise, below the Toyota Vios (+29%), the Toyota Wigo leaps up a spectacular 23 spots on September to land in 2nd place overall with 5.3% share for its 2nd month in market. The Toyota Fortuner (+27%) completes a podium 100% Toyota like last month, ahead of the Mazda3 (+36%) and Ford Ranger (-19%). The Honda CR-V (+599%), Kia Cerato (+146%), Toyota Innova (+70%), Honda City (+55%) and Kia Morning (+46%) also shine in the Top 12.
