Now hit full-frontal by the economic recession and galloping inflation that is plaguing the country, the Argentinean new vehicle market continues to accelerate its freefall, sinking 33.6% in September to 52.364 after June sales down 9.4%,  July down 14.4% and August down 22.8%. The year-to-date tally now tilts into negative at 679.976, down 2.9% year-on-year and the third highest result in history below 2013 (752.724) and 2017 (700.348). Volkswagen (-47%) is up one spot on August to return to the pole position it holds year-to-date despite losing almost half its volume year-on-year. It distances Toyota (-16%) up 3 spots to #2, Chevrolet (-44%) and Renault (-33%). Jeep (+23%) is the only Top 20 manufacturer to manage a year-on-year gain this month at #10, with Nissan (-13%) and Volvo (-15%) resisting best but Lifan (-66%), Hyundai (-63%), Audi (-61%), Chery (-54%), Citroen (-51%), Ford (-47%) and Fiat (-46%) among the worst hit. Further down, Dongfeng (+325%), Suzuki (+29%) and Subaru (+27%) stand out. Toyota manages a 1-2 in the models ranking with the Hilux (-15%) in first place for the first time since January 2017 ahead of the Etios (-28%) while the order is reversed in the YTD ranking that sees the Etios (+12%) on top above the Hilux (+4%). The Chevrolet Onix (-40%), Prisma (-38%) and Ford Ka (-37%) complete the Top 5 ahead of the Renault Kwid up one rank on August to a record 6th place.
