New light vehicle sales in Thailand continue to surge ahead with June (+25.9%) marking the 10th consecutive month of double-digit gains at 87.854 deliveries, lifting the year-to-date volume up 19.3% to 489.118 units. This means the Thai market will almost certainly top the million annual sales milestone for the first time since 2013. Brand leader Toyota is in outstanding shape this month, soaring 55% to 31.6% share vs. 29% YTD (+26%) whereas rival Isuzu significantly trails the market at +16% to 14.7% vs. 17.7% so far this year. Honda (-18%) on the other hand is the only Top 10 manufacturer in negative. Great Top 10 gainers include MG (+89%), Mazda (+61%), Suzuki (+56%) and Mercedes (+33%) while further down Kia (+276%) and Ssangyong (+40%) make themselves noticed.

Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+60%) manages a second consecutive month in pole position – something it hadn’t achieved since December 2016 – but the 9.112 unit-gap with the YTD leader its archenemy the Isuzu D-Max (+22%) seems unsurmountable, equalling roughly one month of sales. The Mazda2 (+87%) brilliantly steps up on the podium for the first time in history, its previous best being #4 hit last August, November, March and May. As a result the Ford Ranger (+33%) is knocked down to #4 but with the Mitsubishi Triton (+51%) at #5 we still have 4 pickup trucks in the Top 5. Thanks to the new generation, the Honda City (+12%) overtakes the Toyota Yaris (-8%) but the Yaris Ativ (#8) remains by far the best-selling newcomer in Thailand ahead of the Toyota C-HR (#14) and MG ZS (#18). Notice also the Mazda CX-5 (+148%), Toyota Corolla (+90%), Suzuki Swift (+80%) and Nissan Almera (+67%) all posting spectacular gains.
