After slowing down its decline to -3% a year ago, the Jordanian new car market is back to plummeting sales at a harsh -29% to 15.358 units halfway through 2018, a drop that only marginally improves to -27% when taking into account the same set of manufacturers year-on-year (in effect removing the VW and BMW Groups that have stopped reporting in the region for 2018). Overthrown in 2017, Toyota (-11%) manages to reclaim the brands top spot thanks to a relatively slim drop, whereas Kia (-22%) remains in 2nd place thanks to a smaller-than-market decline and Hyundai (-53%) implodes to #3. Land Rover (+29%), Suzuki (+19%) and Nissan (+17%) brilliantly manage double-digit gains in the remainder of the Top 10, Isuzu edges up 2% to #5 but Mitsubishi (-74%), Chevrolet (-60%) and Lexus (-28%) all endure painful falls. Further down, notice Ram (+332%), Volvo (+250%), Dodge (+233%), Renault (+211%), Citroen (+204%) and Hino (+140%) ignoring the adverse market conditions to post spectacular gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Kia Frontier (-30%) remains the most popular vehicle in Jordan despite a hefty fall thawing its market share from 11.8% to 11.6%, and is now followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser (-30%) up one spot on a year ago despite also falling just a little faster than the market, in fact benefitting from the total imploding of the Hyundai Elantra (-81%) down from #2 over H1 2017 to #11 now. The Hyundai Tucson (+31%), Kia Sorento (+23%) and Toyota Hilux (+98%) complete the Top 5, totally defying the falling market to lodge stunning gains, as is also the case for the Isuzu TF (+63%), Toyota Corolla (+36%) and Kia Cerato (+18%) in the remainder of the Top 10 that sees the Hyundai Sonata (-67%) and Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup (-38%) sink. The Hyundai Starex (+584%), Toyota Fortuner (+583%) and Nissan Kicks (+390%) record the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 20 and the Renault Zoe (#39) is the most popular new launch ahead of the Hyundai i10 (#55) and Renault Dokker (#59).
