The Indonesian new vehicle market hits the brakes in June with wholesales down 11.4% year-on-year to just 58.837 units. The year-to-date tally however remains in positive, up 3.6% to 553.757. Toyota improves its market share to 31.7% vs. 29.2% so far in 2018, distancing Mitsubishi strong again at 17% (and up 199% year-to-date!), Honda at 15.5%, Suzuki at 12.8% and Daihatsu in dire straits at 11.4% in 5th place vs. 17.1% and #3 so far in 2018. Below Hino (3.5%), Chinese – but now also local producer – Wuling steps up again to hit a record 7th position overall at 2.6% share, eclipsing Isuzu (2.1%). Wuling has now sold over 13.000 units of the Confero (aka Honggung S1) and Cortez (aka Baojun 730) since its introduction in the Indonesia in August 2017.

Wuling is up to a record 7th place in Indonesia in June, less than a year after launching here.

After four consecutive months of surprise domination by the Mitsubishi Xpander – the first time a non-Toyota nameplate ranked #1 in Indonesia since the early eighties – the Toyota Avanza reclaims the #1 rank for the first time since January despite deliveries down 24% year-on-year to 7.9% share, ending its longest stint away from the top since it took control of the Indonesian market back in 2006. The Toyota Cayla soars 63% to 6.9% share for the month, knocking the Mitsubishi Xpander down to #3 and 5.6%, however the Xpander remains #1 YTD for now, a meagre 493 sales above the Avanza. Strong showings of the Suzuki Carry Pikap (+39%), Toyota Rush (+9%) and Honda Brio Satya (+8%) in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the Toyota Agya (-41%) and Daihatsu Sigra (-38%) freefall and the Toyota Kijang Innova (-53%) even steps out of the Top 10. Notice the Wuling Confero up to #21, outselling the Daihatsu Xenia.
